The Oasis Zoo Run, a much-loved Toronto race was quite the success this weekend with about 2,500 runners out to experience racing in the zoo. A family-friendly event, this Canada Running Series race offers both a 5K and 10K course giving runners a full tour of the zoo with the opportunity to say hello to all of its animals while running. Many runners who are also animal lovers should absolutely have this one on the bucket list. It also has a reputation for being a fast and competitive one. This year was no different. Matt Loiselle was the top in the men’s 10K race this weekend. He crossed the finish line in 30:56. Behind him was Berhanu Degefa in a time of 31:23. Dancan Kasia placed third in 32:08. As for the women’s race, the winner was Lioudmila Kortchaguina with her super fast time of 37:01. Ashley Comstock took second place (37:54) and Jennifer Kehoe landed in third running 38:44. For full results of both races, see here. One notable event on race day is the kid’s cub run. Children as young as two but under 13 run a quick 500m loop which takes the kids past the zebra and giraffe cages. After an amusing cruise looking at all the zoo’s furry friends, runner settle in for post-run food and drinks to celebrate a run well done. And of course, with a zoo run, there must be costumes. Those in both the adults and kids races dressed up to blend in with those creatures who live at the zoo. Below we’ve got some of the best costumes and shots from the run.
